REEFTON NOTES.
(Our Own Correspondent). Tho Mokihinui and Inangahua football teams met hero yesterday, and followers of this class of sport were treated to tho best exhibition of Rugby which has been seen on the Reefton ground for the season. The game was clean, hard, and open, and both sides threw the ball : bout in good style. Although Mokihinui were the winners by 16 to six, the scores are by no means an indication of the merits of the teams. During the first 20 minutes Inangahua kept their opponents penned in their own twenty-five, and on three different occasions narrowly missed scoring, while Mokihinui forced down twice. The Mokihinui backs handled the ball particularly well, and indulged in some very good passing rushes, but the tackling of the local team was excellent, and in most cases was successful in stopping a score. The Inangahua forwards more than held their own in the open forward rushes, but in the scrums the visitors generally secured the ball, which went out quickly to the three-quarter line. Several attempts at goals from penalties were tried by Inangrhua, but none of them wore successful, although some were from easy angles. They were without the services of O’Regan, Roberts, Osborne and Bob Powley. Mr R. lieslop was referee, and always had a good control of the game. Nir A. A. McDonnell, of the National Bank of New Zealand staff, has received notice of his transfer, on promotion, to the Palmerston North branch, and leaves for there in the near future.
