KUMARA FIRE BRIGADE
(Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Kumara Volunteer Fire Brigade was held on Wednesday, July 11, 34 members being present, and Captain J. McFarlane presided. The minutes of the last annual and ordinary meetings were read and confirmed. The secretary read the balance-sheet, which showed a credit of £7O 1/-, and was adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —Captain, J. McFarlane; Lieut., Geo. MeEnaney; Treasurer, J. Murphy; Secretary, R. C. Bell; Auditor, J. Rochford. All uniforms were handed in and distributed out to most of the new members. Captain AlcFarlane, in his annual report, said that the financial position of the brigade was most satisfactory. The officers had all attended well to theij^respective duties, and the manner in which the brigade had coped with the outbreaks of fire (which fortunately were few) had been most satisfactory: 110 advocated a continuance of the economic policy, as much gcaand equipment would have to bo replaced in course of time. He felt proud of being re-elected captain, and '.as well pleased with all his officers and firemen, who voluntarily came forward to carry on the good work of the bri gade. The remarks of the captain were heartily endorsed by ex-Captain tßrayshaw and Fireman Hurrcn. Later the brigade and their friends spent a very pleasant social evening. Songs were contributed by Firemen J. 1 J. Rochford and J Alurphy. while Fire- ’ man J. Hurren contributed several monologues. The evening concluded by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
