(By “Cambrian/’) There will be racing at Washdyke to-day, when the first day of the South Canterbury meeting will be decided. Apex is a good jumper, but will bo hard put to see out a mile and a quarter. Mandrake is used to the game They are- a rough lot in the Glad- . stone Welter. First Aid may see out a mile. Some of the best sprinters in the land are engaged in the Smithfield Handicap. Limelight owes a debt to iier followers. Bon Spec is a speedy beginner. Angelo is weighted 8.1 in the Cup, whilst Loughrea has a chance toprove good. * Calma is nicely weighted in the Otlpua Steeples. I’aleneia has 10.4. Nineteen have been paid up for in the Electric Stakes. Happy Warrior and Dancing Days will not lack support Linmark has winning form to his credit. Mythology is a good welter horse. Warhaven is likely to face tin- barrier. Golden Bubble, who was galloped on iat the recent Avondale meeting, is being spelled. It was intended to bring him south for the Egmont and Wanganui meetings, but. these plans may have to be altered. Joy Ride is being sought after by an Indian buyer, but so far no business has resulted. Boadicca is written of as being most unlucky at the Trcntham meeting, and northern scribes aver that with any luck at all she would have at least earned place-money. She is in the Timaru Cup. Magistrate broke his off hind pastern last week, and was destroyed. MANAWATU RACES. SECOND DAY’S RESULTS. SEVERAL HORSES RUINED. PALMERSTON N., April 19. Dainty Stop (Butler) came down with a broken fetlock, and was destroyed, and the other three horses concerned were seriously injured. Festivity and Taipairu’s racing careers arc finished, and the former has head injuries, and may have to be destroyed, while Wheatfield is an unlikely starter for the future. The jockeys Alexander and Garrett wore taken to the hospital, with slight injuries, no bones being broken. Butler was severely shaken. Adderston Welter.—Birkenella ('ll. Stuart) 1, Kaotane 2, Left 3.
