Police Superintendent Sheehan, of Christchurch, has been on an official visit to the West Coast since Saturday. A Christchurch telegram records the death of Mr W. B. Scott, the head of th-e v. ell-known Scott motor firm, at the age of 72 years. A London cable states that Mrs Beckles W illson, founder of the famous Paris canteen corner of Blighty, died while at pr: yer in a Mitcham Church. A New York cable records the death of a world-famous Japanese chemist, Dr Jokichi Tamamine, at the age of 68 years. He discovered the glandular product known as Adrenalin. Aliss Monica S. Barrie, youngest daughter of the late Air Jas. Barrie, of Stillwater, was last week at St John’s Church, Christchurch, married to Air Geo. Wm. Brown, of Rangiora, Rev N. Wright officiating. Dr W. A. Chapple, formerly a New Zealand member of Parliament (for Tuapeka) is thp Liberal candidate for Dumfries (Scotland) at the next British general election. Last election the Coalition won the seat easily. Hjs meny friends will be pleased to know that Mr Tom Walsh, of South Beach, who has been an inmate of the Grey River Hospital for some time past, was able to leave the institution on Saturday, very much improved in health. Princess Alary, according to a cablegram yesterday from London, was one of those involved in a motor collision in the West End of London. She was considerably shaken when her car collided with that of Lord Aberdeen. The chaffeurs, by prompt action, prevented a head-on collision, but the impact was severe as it was. A wedding was celebrated yesterday afternoon at the residence of Mr Maf*in Parker, at North Beach, Cobden, by the Rev. Farnell, the contracting parties being Air Ddnald Cameron, and Mrs Margaret Wyn. Miss L. Harrison acted as bridesmaid, whilst the duties of best man were ably carried out by Mr James Bourke, jun. Late in the afternoon the happy couple left for Point Elizabeth, where the honeymoon will be spent. Among the passengers from Sydney recently by the Ulimaroa was Mr W. J. Tomkinson, a well-known trainer -jf trotters in Victoria and New South Wales. He brought a team of 10 horses, who are entered for the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meetings in August and November. The team comprises eight pacers—viz., th<* champion Happy Voyage, Wearer, Barley Chimes, Realm, Escort, Centreway, Snowshoe, and Bismurate—and the trotters Kean John and Wimmera King. The horses had a good trip across.
