ATTEMPT TO CROSS CHANNEL A PLUCKY FRENCHMAN. (Received duly 22, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 21. A French long-distance swimming eliauipiou, Mieliel, accompanied by Burgess, started from Grisnez in an attempt to swim tin 1 t'hanncl. They gave up six miles off the South Foreland, after being Hi hours in the water. HARD LICK. (Received July 23, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 22. Georges Michel, a Frenchman, accompanied by Burgess, entered the sea at Cape Grisnez on Thursday evening in an attempt to swim the Channel, lb' swam for sixteen and a half liou.s.
