Mr Phil Power, who has been on a 'holiday tour through the North and 1 South Islands, returned to Greymouth

on Saturday. Mr Phil Stowart, of Runanga, who has been on a two months’ holiday visit to his parents at Guildford, Victoria, returned to Runanga last week. Mr J. Quinn, a Marist junior player, was unfortunate in having his collarbone broken in the match with Cobden juniors on Saturday. Mr P. Cohen (Reefton) has received word of the death at Wellington of his Aunt, Mrs L. Dinant, a native of Ross. A wedding, which will be of special interest to the residents of Weheka, South Westland, is expected to take place shortly. Mr O. Davies, Mine Manager of the State Colleries, who was recently an inmate of the Grey River Hospital, was discharged from there last week. Mr Worry, who has accepted the position of headmaster of the Reefton D-istrict High School, will arrive in Reef ton on August 21. Mr W. R. J. Smythe, of the Christchurch staff of the Australian Mutual Provident Society has been appointed District Manager for the Society at Greymouth. Mr E. Straeker, who has only recentlv been discharged from the hospital, where he has been undergoing treatment for injuries to his spine, leaves by the Reefton train this morning on a visit to his father at Ngakawau. The death took place yesterday at the Grey River Hospital of a wellknown Ross resident, Mr "William F. Mason, who had been in failing health for some time as the result of a strain.

He was engaged as sawyer at Messrs Stewart and Chapman's Ross mill for some considerable time, and was a popular man in the southern district, where lie formerly was a prominent footballer. He served at the war, being a bandsman in the N.Z. 2nd Battalion. He was a single man, a native of Ross, and was 38 years of age. He leaves four brothers, Messrs Geo. and Andrew Mason (Ross), Archie (Blackball), and Joseph (Westport), while his sisters are Mesdames Woolhouse (Westport), F. Cut bush (Crushington), and J. G. Walton (Greymouth). His parents, Mr and Mrs Wm. Mason, reside at Ross, while his grandmother, Mrs Miller, aged 91 years, is at present in Greymouth on a visit from Christchurch. The relatives will have the sympathy of many friends in their loss. The funeral takes place at Ross on Wednesday.
