AMUSEMENTS.

CATHOLIC .EDUCATION CONCERT. The long looked for, and well rehearsed, concert organised by the Hibernian Society will be presented to-morrow evening at tL? Opera House. Most functions are generally boosted by their respective promoters, but after witnessing a complete rehearsal yesterday afternoon, one is inclined to agree with the Secretary of the Society (Mr McKeowen) and Rev Brother Hendrick, singing master of the Brothers' school, that this concert will equal—if not siixp-iss—anything of Its kind. Tho programme is so varied in its get-up that it must command popularity. The object as is wellknown, is to provide a contributory aid

to the Marist Brothers School re-build-ing fund. The the proposed building show a school of modern dimensions and facilities, and this will be a decided, acquisition to the town — both architecturally and scholastic The following will give some idea of the comprehensive setting of the concert. There will be opening choruses by the school pupils in both parts —m the second, one will be a community song and the other, four parts unaccompanied, The junior pupils will be seen to advantage in an action song: “I Like That Military Band.” Then will follow two recitations: “The Dirty Face,” Master T. Wylie and ‘‘Little Bobbie’s Recitation” by Master B. Galbraith. The St. Columba Glee Club will make its debut in solo and

choral work. The solo has been allot- ! ted to Mr Les Stapp, “If 1 might Como to Yon,” with, cello obigato by l Mr A. Parkinson. The auct: “Where AFy Caravan Has Rested” is entrusted to Messrs V. Fraser and L. Stapp. There was considerable competition for selection of tho quartette and Messrs Fraser, Stapp, Bayley and W. O’Neill will face the footlights in “Sweet and Low.” An innovation will be a solo test for students. The piece “Loser and Ben Bolt” and the following will try conclusions before Mr Eric Moss, who will act as adjudicator:—Masters W. Payne, J. Meßrearty, R. Williams, E. Fennell and AL Knapp. The two little dancers Miss M. Hannan and Master J. Meßrearty always prove popular and the “Balloon Dance” Is a novelty, this item will be spectacular and with special lighting effects. A solo and quartette will be led off by Master V. Knapp and sympathisers: Please Give Me a Penny Sir.” A dialogue: “Where there’s a Will There’s a Way” will be rendered by Masters AV. Payne and R. Williams. The statue drill should prove an. attractive item and a farce a “Surprise Visit” should bring down the house* The characters have been well chosen. It would bo well for patrons to secure

their seats and avoid disappointment This can be done for 3/- at the Brls* tol.
