CORRESPONDENCE.
BACK BITING. (To the Editor). Sir,—There are still some fair-mind-ed people in W'estport, in addition to many crooked minds. The latter class of gentry have held sway for such a long time that the bad effects of their habits have somehow or other got tangled up in pretty well everything that is going. But I venture the remark that 99 out of every 100 of the community will be thoroughly in accord with Air Robert Patterson in 1 ‘sticking up” for Mr Richard Farmer who was being attacked during his absence from a meeting in the Town Hall re valuations a few nights ago. However, much one may disagree with the borough valuations, as set out by Mr Farmer, of the Crown Lands Ofiice, still to suggest ‘‘lynching” and to refer to a gentleman as ‘‘a d fool,” are remarks which should only be expected to emanate from a jiettifogging back-biter, or else an ignorant being whose ideas of commercial morality are as much out of unison with the true case as the ideas of a Alcxican cowspanker aro different from those of an Eastern potentiate. •—I am, etc., FAIRPLAY.
