Cr Archer returned thank's for his election. He promised to do his best for tin 1 ratepayers. He would also tr.v to work in harmony with nil councillors. CT Archer regrid tod that Mie AI.L.C. would not accept nomination, as he had been the best chairman the council had ever had. His raising of a loan from the Coal Company at 5A per cenl. for liquidation of their overdraft spoke for itself, lie hoped his term in the Legislative Council would be as successful as his term of office as chairman of the county. On resuming his seat, lhe chairman elect was the recipient of bouquets from :11 directions. Some very fine ones wei(> amongst the bunch, while each in turn had its own special bloom. The complimentary remarks bestowed on the chairman were coupled with tributes to the good work done by the outgoing chief councillor. The election, of chairman being at an eml, and the usual routine of bompiet throwing having smothered the “elect” almost out of sight, the council adjourned for luncheon.
