IL Williams, G. H. Williams, 11. Wood. SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL. * (Our Special Correspondent.) Tn connection with the above there was a ladies’ meeting on Wednesday at Westport Town Hall, and Mis G. H. Gothard presided. She informed the meeting that 3000 ribbons could be ]>ig cured. Air Fair was arranging about the ribbons, which could be printed upon, .-.nd a certain number sent out to the country and sold at 1/- each. Airs Riley ar 1 Airs Duthie moved [that the words “In Aleinory” be printed on the ribbon. Carried. Miss Vitaglieh suggested that the ribbons be sent out to the country a few days before the King’s Birthday for sale. Airs Gothard said that the town and country people were expected to contribute to the memorial. Karamea residents hud relatives and friends killed in the war and the names of the fallen friends would be on the memorial. A special train from the country was arranged and thousands would come to the town, and the county bands would be present, also the Orchestra and Town Band. The country people would buy a shilling ribbon before coming to town, and arrive wearing ribbons as mementoes. The Indies should arrange to sell the ribbons in town blocks and also send a certain amount to the country. Mrs Stephens thought 5000 should be procured. Airs Gothard said that Air Fair was getting the ribbon at cost price. After a general discussion it was decided to procure 5000 purple ribbons. I It was resolved that Mrs Gothard act as secretary for the Ladies’ Committee. Mrs Duthie moved that the town be cut into blocks from the river bank and back into Duby Street. Airs Menzies seconded. Carried. The drafting was as follows: —Beach to Bright Street, Aliss Seaton; Bright Street to Cobden Street, Airs Coursey; Cobden Street to Parkington Street, Mesdamcs Craig and Cameron; Parkington Street to Henley Street, Mrs Gemmell; Henley Street to Lyndhurst Street, Airs Duthie; Lyndhurst Street to Brougham Street, Airs Lock; Brougham Street to AVakefield Street, Airs Finley; Wakefield to Rintoul Street, Airs Ballard; Rintoul to Eoutlaigh St., Alias Hobbs; Foutlaigh St. to Mill St., Aliss Rodgers, Alill Street to Railway, Airs Lee; Railway to O’Connor Home, Airs Menzies; Extension of Mill Street, Mesdamcs Vincent and Stephens. Airs Lock proposed that a table, with ribbons, be arranged for with two ladies, at Fair’s corner to sell ribbons on the King’s Birthday. Saturday collectors on the streets appointed were: Mcsdames Fox, Ballard, Vitaglich, Morgan, Stowell, Pat- 1 terson, Gothard, Riley, ana W. Hobbs. The ladies in charge of the ribbons ire requested to be at the Town Hall,

with the badges and the money collected, on the Friday night. Airs Stowell promised to go out on the Friday to sell the badges in the country. Air Stirton suggested a new scheme for a copper trail to be worked at the Square. The Surf Club, the Buller Rugby Union, and the hockcyites would work the trail on the Square. Airs Duthie moved that Air Stirton’s scheme be adopted. Carried. Mr Stirton announced that the footballers would give a handsome donation. The country train will arrive by 10 a.m. in the morning, and the 4 p.m, ;rain will be delayed until 5 p.m.
