BELL MISSES THE BUS. [A. and N. Z. Cable Association] LONDON, May 24. Despite an emphatic statement to the contrary, Sir F. Bell arrived at Genoa on the last day of the conference, in lime for the final plenary sitting. New Zealand’s 11th hour decision lends point to Sir J. Cook’s statement on the question of advantages of direct Australian and New Zealand representation. He said: 1 do not hesitate to say that direct representation is essential. It is not merely a question of Australia’s status but it is necessary to remember the different viewpoints on financial and economic questions, which are natural to raw material exporting and importing countries. LLOYD GEORGE WILL OPEN DEBATE. (Received May 25, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, May 24. Mr Chamberlain, replying to a question in the House of Commons, said that when informed that strong feeling had been expressed on the matter in ail quarters of the House, Mr Lloyd George had authorised him to state that ho would defer to the wishes of the House, and would open the Genoa debate. Mr Lloyd George had said he must ask the House to allow him to reply, should the debate or the criticisms render a second speech necessary. DEBATE IN THE COMMONS. LONDON, May 24. The Labour Party and the Independent Liberals have been informed that Mr Chamberlain will decline to speak in the debate on the Genoa Conference on Thursday, until Mr Lloyd George made his report.
