| (Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Cycling Club was held the other evening, when there was a fair attendance of members, Mr Lochore being voted to the chair. There was a discussion as to what route the i next race should take, and after hearing manv : rgumeiits, it was finally decided that the route be as follows: — Sturt from J.ower Broadway, proceed to Hampson’s, return along Smith Street, turn at Willis's corner, proceed to MrDowell Hill, and then return and finish at the Council Chambers. The object in view is to allow the public to set' as much of the race as possible. It. was further decided to postpone the nominations until ’Thursday, 18th, and the handicaps to be declared on the 20th. The reason for this action is to give riders an opportunity to train j over the course. The prizes arc to be ( I as follows: — First prize, a fat sheep, i presented by Mr J. J. O'Regan, and a box of chocolates, presented by Mr R. Lochore; second prize, half a ton of I coal, presented by Mr J. Donuor; third prize, 1 cwt potaloes, presented by Mr J. T. Gilmer; fourth prize, quarter cwt turnips, presented by Mr E. Mitchell. The following officials were appoint|ed to conduct the event, with power to add to their number: Handicappers, R. Lochore and T. Letcher; timekeepers, F. Hawken ami P. Cohen; judges, AbSimpson and S. Lockington. ’1 hi* event will take place on Wednesday, May | 24, at 2.15 p.m. Messrs E. IL Hubbard, Han Wright, L. Coxhall. 11. Hockin, are to be stationed at various points to i show the riders the proper roads to take. It will be open to all riders on I the West Coast. A hearty vote of .thanks to the chair concluded a very . enthusiast ic meet ing. j ’The funeral of the late Mrs Noil Olsen | took place on Saturday afternoon, and 'was wry largely attended, many peoI pie coming from a distance to pay the'r last tribute of respect to one whom they j i had known and loved.
