CELEBRATIONS IN EUROPE. PLANE WATCHES MEETINGS. (Received May 2, at 5.5. p.m.) ROME, MAY 1. May Day passed; quietly. Shops were dosed, no vehicles plied in the streets, and no newspapers were published. PARIS, May 1. Labour Day passed in Sabbatical calm, except that cabmen and businesses of every kind went on absolutely as usual. The giant aeroplane, Goliath, cruised over the> city watcnin> Socialist meetings. JAPANESE CELEBRATIONS. IN ALL CENTRES. TOKIO, May 1. There were May Day processions in all the large Japanese cities. Minor clashes occurred with the police, who lined the routes At Osaka, the workers were forbidden to hold a Labour Parade, but thoi- secured their objective by holding it in the guise of a welcome to the Prince of Wales.
