GREYMOUTH HIBERNIANS RESOLUTION.
Last evening there was a large attendance of members of the Greymouth St. Patrick’s No. 17 Branch of the Hibernian Australasian Catholic Benefit Society ai the regular fortnightly meeting held at the Society's Hall, Alexander Street. Bro E. King. President occupied the chair. After th 6 ordinary business had been transacted, several members spoke in reference to the action of tho Cabinet in stating it had decided to conduct a prosecution against Bishop Liston, of Auckland as the result of Mr Gunson’s attack on tho Bishop for his speech on St. Patrick’s Day, at an Irish gathering at Auckland Town Hall. It was finally resolved unanimously, on the motion of Bros, M. Daly and P. Deere, supported by numerous other members of the Branch:—“That the St Patrick’s No. 17 Branch of the Hibernian Australasian Catholic Benefit Society
desires to express its loyalty and devotion to the Rt. Rev Dr Liston, Coadjutor Bishop of Auckland and its sympathy with him in the bitter attacks that have been made upon him, and in the misrepresentation to which he has been subjected, and that it assures Dr Liston of its cordial support.’’ The motion was carried by acclamation.
