BANKRUPT CHARGED.
BREACHES OF ACT. MASTERTUTT, March 28. Four charges in connection with alleged breaches of the Bankruptcy Act were preferred against Ernest Robert Ward, carrier, of Masterton, in the Supreme Court. The informations were (laid by Arthur D. Low, Deputy Offi- | cial Assignee. Ward was charged that ! lie had failed to keep books clearly | showing his financial position to his | bankruptcy, and that between March 1 land April 3, 1921, he contracted debts I with Allan and Co. (£ll/16/1), Wilton and Jenkin (£l3/11/-.), and Andrews and Rolph (£29/1/3.), knowing that he had no reasonable prospects of being I able to pay them in addition to his other debts. Mr R. R. Burridge represented the Deputy Official Assignee, and Mr R. McKenzie appeared for the accused. | In outlining his case, Mr Burridge (said that under the Bankruptcy Act it was incumbent cn men in business to keep a proper set of books to show their financial position. This the accused had failed to do, ariff in audition he had incurred further debts during the period mentioned in the charge, knowing at the time that lie was uncertain as to his financial position. | The breach lay not merely in the incurring of the debts, but in the knowledge that he had rjo reasonable pros- •, pcct,s of meeting these accounts as well as others that were owing at the ■ time.
