NEW TRADE ARBITER.

U.S.A. AND JAPAN. (Received January 18, 10.30 p.m.) TOKIO, January 13. The dependence of Japanese commerce upon that of America was indicated when there was a rumour that the American silk buyers had boycotted Japanese silk on account of high prices. The report caused the Yokohama silk market to drop eight points, causing a temporary flurry. The market later on quickly steadied. The rumour was the outgrowth of a New York Japanese Consular report outlining certain dissatisfaction of the American buyers at the state of the Japancse market.
