ENGINES COLLIDE.
IN THORNDON YARD(3. DRIVER FATALLY INJURED. WELLINGTON, Dec 20. A collision occured between two engines in the Thorndon railway yards, which resulted i.'i one driver . (J." Hopkirk) losing his life. One engine was going to the Lacnbton Station, and the other was about ? to cross the main line. Hopkirk's en. I gine was struck above the cylinderj box so forcibly as to throw it of the rails on to its side. The fireman got ! clear, but Hopkirk was crushed be- | twee.i the engine and the ground, ami so injured that lie died shortly after his removal t othe hospital. The signalman, it is stated, saw the engines approaching and gave- the danger signa-l, but deceased was on. the other side and could not see it. He was fifty years of age and leaves, a widow.
