COBDEN CONVENT SCHOOL
The annual breaking-up concert and Christinas tree oi ! tho above school took place at the- Convent School grounds, Cobden, yesterday. The first part of the entertainment was a musical programme, varied with dialogues choruses by the boys and girls, ]K ,rt songs, solos, and piano selections by the various pupils. ' The* whole programme was received by a large anil appreciative audience. " Dances ivo iX . also given. Every single item went to show the careful tuition of the pupils by the Sisters. At the conclusion" of the. concert, the Rev Father La Croix thanked the people, for their attendance. The Rev Father was in a jocular mood and said that he did not wish to detain them long with a speech, but he was curious. He noticed when he came into the room, that there were several packages ni the back of the school, and the.-c were to be disposed of. Ho hojt.d that those present had brought pleii.v of money with them. If not, ho would be sorry for them. The packages were full of good things, and would be disposed of in the various stalls. The centre of attraction was a -lingo Christmas Tree, plentifully coveirt'l with toys and things pleasing to the children. The tree was soon cleared of its load. The side-shows and tearooms did a roaring business, and tiic evening brought to an end one of the most pleasing and successful functions of its kind ever held in Cobden. The takings, £26, were very satisfactory to the committee, and those who heiped in any way to make the afternoon such -a success.
