In the early part of the day tho sky was overcast, and after .the fifth race a light rain set in. The totalisator receipts were £67,836 10, against £56,154 for the corresponding day last year. Results: Melrose Handicap. — Arch Margot (Walsh) 1, Forest Gold 2, Infante 3. Also started: Tuipa, North Loburn, Jolly Princess, ' Peter Maxwell, Aircraft, Maholtahi, Poanui,, Narrow Neck, Sam, Boomaday. Commission, Impudence, Reretoa, Kumara, Grab, Maid of the Lake. Won by half a length; half a neck. Time 1.15 3-5. Borough Handicap. — Prince Willownyx (Glover) 1, Rathlin 2, Independence 3. Tinopai, Lord Kenilworth, Marble Slab Windorah-. Lord Kenilworth showed '•the way out of the straight, but was headed by Tinopaj at the 5 furlongs post. The latter was challenged by First Saluto at the head of the straight and the latter, securing the lead, won in good style by a length \ and a half from Uncle Ned, who beat j Cleft by a length.
