COST OF LIVING

COST OF LIVING. CONSIDERED BY LABOUR CONFERENCE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 19. The local trades unions last night held a conference on the cost of living question. A committee was set up to go fully into the details of the matter. Resolutions were adopted opining that the trend of legislation during the war period had been in the direction of releasing the employer of liability towards' workmen, while repressive measures had been framed to curb the growing discontent among the workers. The conference declared that the Arbitration Court wa\s a complete- failure, its judgments being without weight or value. Employers when_ refusing to meet work-people to adjust wages to meet the greatly increased cost of living must certainly lead to an industrial revolt.
