Jack Arnst, the well-known Canterbury cyclist, brother of "Dick" has been killed in action/ i - Two' Keefton -soldiers recently wounded and admitted to hospital are Lance Corporal E. P. Melbom and Private R. Clarke. Private Wm. Owens, of Kanieri, writing. home- states that with the other New Zealanders 'who have been in Mesopotamia, he* is being transferred to the West Front. Word has been received at Westport, that Private Archie Moore is among the soldiers who died at sea. Mrs Moore is a daughter of Mr. Hufton. of Westport, On Monday the death occurred •at the Westport Hospital of Mr. W.. R. Jones (of Messrs Skilton and Jones), .who had heen removed to the hospital on Saturday suffering fiom appendicitis in an acute, form. Corporal Adam McCorkindale, who lias been killed in action iv France, waa formerly well known in Reefton, and his brother, Mr. D. MeCorkindale, now of Ohakune, Was for some time a resident of Black's Point. Among the soldiers who. died at sea while en route for England is Private T. Stevenson, formerly of Greymouth. He was 20 years of age, a son. of Mr. E. Stevenson, of Christchurch, and before -enlisting was a postal official. Mr J. Y. Walls, Bachelor of Science (Glasgow) has been appointed (says a Press Association wire) to be Inspector of Technical Schools. Mr Walls is at present head of the science and mathematics department of the Wellington Technical College. The sad news was received from Defence : Depsirtmeht yesterday. * announcing the death of another. Keefton soldier, Alt' Hoberts, who. has been killed at the front. lhe deceased soidier leaves a wite and four children aud his parents, Mr and Mrs A. -Roberts, reside in Sn.el Street, Reetton. * \ ■ The many friends in this district of Mr Thomas Cahili. of Christchuicu,-for-merly a well-known diaper of HoKitiKa will hear with.sinceie regret of ' tne death of his oniy sou, Private Hugn Cahili, whose death is reported at sua ou his way to ihe front. 'Deceased was a grandson of Mr. Hugh Cassidy, the/ well-known coach driver and Mrs iiortegast of Hokitika*, is an aunt.
