General March explains that' the salient was captured by means of quick blows on both flanks. The tirrain was difficult. The Germans claimed they voluntarily retreated, but General March points out that the tot.il captures of prisoners exceeded 15^000. St Mihie] was not destroyed owing to the Germans having hurriedly retreated.
