THE STEAMER ESCAPES. (Rec. June 10, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 9. 3. s submarine attacked n London steamship at nighttime, during a henvy sea. Lightning and flares revealed tlie aggressor three cables off. The conflict continued for three hours amid zig zagging and smokescreens. The Germans fired forty rounds ineffectively. Tl>e British gunner scored three hits out of ten shots. The submarine, after rapidly diving, 1- reappeared, with her aft part above water and her tore end submerged. Six Germans clambered out of the conning tower and proceeded aft to examine the damage, «rhen the steamer escaped.
