SUBMARINES OPERATING IN SHORE.
LONDON, March 6. Continuing his statement in the House of Commons, Sir Eric Geddes said the submarines were operating in an increasing extent in shore, thus j giving increasing opportunities for patrol craft and aircraft to attack, m. enabling a "greater amount of salvageto be carriea out. ' ■ Sir Eric Geddes concluded by warmly paying a tribute to the Navy and mercantile marine, especially the destroyers arid escorting craft. The Navy indeed was the shield of the Allies. # i The statement regarding the sinking of submarines in Sir Eric Geddes's speech ,caused perplexity in the House .sequently privately explained that he intended to convey was that one suV marine in every four or five operating in home waters failed to return to Germany. i
