— ♦ — - - (From Our Special Correspondent;) • -. .Mr. Michael Powley, Beef ton, has received a telegram froni the pefenc^ Office stating that his son Jack has been, wounded in France and is reptiift;ed as a severe case. Mr. Powley has also received a. telegram from Sir Joseph Ward regretting to learn that his son was severely wounded and washing him a speedy recovery. i Mrs Arnold, Three-Channel Flat, has received the sad news that her son Leslie. was' killed in action in France. This young soldier enlisted with the, early reinforcements and returned home wounded and later again enlisted. Mrs Walsh, Dick Street, Beef ton, has received word that her sin Eugene has beon wounded in France. Mrs. Con Crowley, Church Street, Beef ton has received word from the Defence Department ■' that her son, Jack has been paralysed' -in one arm. Cr. Betts, member for Crushington Biding, announced definitely, at the.. last meeting of t the Inangahua County' I Council that he was not going to seek' re-election. He finds tjat he is unable to devote the time to county matters. All his sons have gone "to the war and hig farm will now need all his attention; Mr JJetts has represented Crushingtou Biding for ,21 years, and will be much miaaed in; the council and the riding lie represented. Mr. Dennis Heslop, a popular clerk the county office whd^ leaves next month to join the reinforcements, was presented .by the councillors and staff with a handsome wristlet -watch. This is the fourth brother of the Heslop family to don khakL ... - ../\V Mr. Norman James.' counter clerk at Jie Post and Telegraph Office, TFas presented with n handsome wristlet watch from the Postmaster an;d staff. Mr. James was • a most obliging and popular officer and will be much missed at the counter.,
