His numerous friends; wil^jbe jlad to learn of • his recovery./ The sad news has been received that Private R. O'Brien,, brother- of Miss A. O 'Brien, head-mistress of the ; Cobden, School, died of wounds on August 20. Deceased, who was wounded^ in : the" fighting on the Palestine border, " lef€ New Zealand with the 3rd Reinforcements. He was a married, man, "with one child and his parents reside -..'at Blenheim. Miss O'Brien's friends in Greymouth and Cobden wilj extend to her th6ir sincere- sympathy on the loss of a second brother while in the ser- " vice of his King, and country. "/■' Mrs. M. Mr. Leitch suitably replied and stated that his position as mining manager had been bereft of many of its difficulties by the loyal attitude of all the officials wno had ; surrounded Mm from time to time. -A uicmorble evening terminated at midnight by the singing of "Auld Lang !syuc."
