JUNIOR COMPETITION. I MAKIST DEFEAT UNITED. The match Marist' and United Juniors was played on .Saturday at Victoria Park notwithstanding the wet conditions prevailing. Both teams I were well represented. United kicked off against a slight breeze. Marist were quickly oil the aggressive and removed play into the blues' twentyfive. Loose forward rushes headed by Dclaney, Wilkinson and Brcen saw United in trouble •thcrb.all going out in the corner. A line-atit followed McKay kicked out- of danger. The Greens continued to attack and with fast forward dashes carried the leather on to the Bines' lino. Here Breen was unlucky in missing the greasy ball .and . United forced down. The Blues rallied and good Avork by Brydon, Russell and Dittman shifted piny to half-way. However, the Greens returned the attack, Keonan. Knell and Doogan gcting in some fine footwork, causing the Uirited an anxious moment. Line-out j>lajn - ollowed und a knock-on by Cfarke gave a scrum the Greens hooking the leather. Keenan sent un to Clark'e who throw the ball across the scrum on the blind side to Dougan, but owing to a forward ball a nice chance to score was lost.. Continued attacks by Marist were saved by good defensive play on the part <of McKay, Baxter and Bromley and the Greens were unable to draw first blood. Tho BluCs headed by Russell, Grcatbutch und Brydone carried play into tlKi Greens' twenty-five. From a liueout McKay picked up and passed to Good, who transferred to Boustridge, this player racing for the line but he was held up by Knell and Tames. Bromley, however coming fast on the outside of the wing, scooped up the leather and scored a good try. The kick at goal failed. United a; Mafist 0. Half-time was called shortly after. .- On resuming in the second .spell, the Greens attacked strongly for the first five minutes but United Avcrc safe on the defence and soon returned the atlacks into the Greens' twenty-five. Loose forward play followed, thr Blues' pack taking the ball at their toe but lost a good chance of scoring, through attempting to handle the ball. A scrum followed and Clarke found the line. A series of line-outs followed and good work, by Scott, Grcig and. Ryan removed the danger from the Greens' line. Some give and. take play continued with a number of freekicks in quick succession favouring United, and once more the Marist were defending. Dittman and Good broke away but the last-named Avas neatly grassed by James, thus preventing a certain score. Marist rallied and 0 r JS T eill, Dclauey, and Scott in the van carried play to half-Avay. The ball came out to Doogan, Avho dribbled nicely . but- slipped, and Knell following on carried the leather, at his toe up to Mcßrearty, who Avas collared with the ball, and Wilkinson, Keenan and '■ Kitgour dribbled on the ball going out at touch in goal. The Greens continued to. attack and a high pun I by Scott saw McKay in trouble, and Dolaney and O'Neill following last secured a merited try. Tho kick sit goaJ Tailed. .Marist 0; United 3. With the scores even" the United attacked and Anderson, Baxter and McKay causedthe Greens trouble. A. free-kick relieved the pressure und loose forward play carried the ball into the Blues' territory. Keenan passed to Clarke, who centred, and the Green pack Avcre ilowri. oh the United backs, Causing trouble. The ball came out to Doogan •vho, followed by Kilgour, carried play into the corner. A line-out followed and a loose scramble saw Brccn pick up and dive 'over "at the corner. The attempt a,t goal failed the scores reading: Marist -6; United o. Prom hoav till no-side was sounded. Marist attack, ed strongly and United, forced down, ihe whistle sounding time without further score. Mr. T. Mclntosh 1 was referee.
