LABOUR LEADER'S AWARDS. WOMEN HONOURED. '
(Rec. August 25. 2.^5 p.m.) LONDON. August 24. The Order of Companion has been conferred on seventeen persons of both sexes. headed by General Smuts. The list includes the Marchioness of Landsowne and Miss Violet Mavkham and the folloAving Commoners Messrs Wardle and Wilkie and Lord Durham. __ There are five Dames of the Grand Cross in the British Empire headed Dy the Queen and thirteen Knights of the Grand Cross, which include die Duke of Gcnnaught, Lords Enimott, Gladstone and ovdenham and Sir Arthur Pearson. The five Dames Commander include the Dowager Marchioness Duffenn and Mistress Alfred Lyttelton and the forty-three Knights Commander in the British i Empire, comprise the administrators and advisers of various Government oodies. The seventy-nine Commanders include Mr. Appleton. Secretary of the General Federation of Trades Unions ! and Mr. Havelock Wilson, President of the. Seamen's Union, Matrons of the leading London Red Cross Society and the seventy officers of the Order include a number of Trades Union officials.
