PRESTON ROAD YARDS.

FAT STOCK SALE,

At Preston Road yards yesterday there was a decidedly short entry of cattle, only about 35 being yarded to meet a demand of possibly 50 or 60. The quality of the beef wua, with the exception of a few, anything* but up to staudard. Three . hundred fat sheepyarded were sold to advantage and compensated somewhat for the shortage of beef. The sale was possibly the dearest ever, held iv the yards, -prices being greater than Canterbury values. *■ Mark Sprot and Co. sold: On account of Mr. J. Doolan, Totara Flat: 2 bullocks at £13 15s, 2 -at £12 ss, 1 at £11, 2 prime heifers at £12 ss, 1 at. £9 2s 6d, 1 heifer at £11; 7s 6d; on account of Mr. W. Clayton, Ahaura: 40 mixed ewes and wethers at 30/-, 'lo fat cattle, which were offered at auc"tion and passed, , being subsequently' sold privately at current rates. On account of Mr. G. H. Robinson: 60 very prime wethers, 40/3 to 38/9; also IS prime bullocks sold privately at £34 to £11 7s 6d; ou account of Mr. D. Diedrieh: 120 fat sheep at 33/-.

Messrs G. W. Moss and Co. report yesterday's sale at Preston, Yards as follows: The entry consisted of 32 cattle and 260 sheep. The demaud was keen and prices ruled high. Some of the yarding of beef and mutton was of hidiifcrent quality but realised big values under the shammer. . They placed the stock:-— Fat cattle: On account of Messrs Price Bros, 1 bullock at £14, 2 at £13 128 6d, 2 at £13 10s, 2 light-weight steers at £8 2s (3d, 1 heifer at £9 12s"6d, 1 prime cow at £12 10s, 1 af £11 1 at £10, 1 at £8 17s 6d.
