DEMOCRACY THREATENED.
THE ATTITUDE OF LABOR. LONDON, October 15. ' Some 25 Labor members of the House of Commons ami numerous trade union and other Labor leaders } in the course of a manifesto, say : — "If England had stood aside, a German victory would probably li.'tve meant death to democracy in Europe. While tho conflict lasts, England must be sustained without and within. The combatants must be supported to the utmost. The Labor movement is doing its part in this paramount national nnty. We are confident that tlie- brutal doctrine and methods of German militarism will fail. When the time comes to discuss peace, Labor will stand for an international agreement that disputes in future be settled by arbitration, not machine "guns."
