Exciting scenes were winessed at a fire which broke out early in the morning at Tiffanys, the famous jewellers and goldsmiths, on Broadway New York. The outbreak occurred in the vault, which, fortunately, did not contain any of the more valuable portion of the stock and the damage was confined to chemicals and packing of which a large quanity was destroyed. On the arriv al of the fiTe^ngines the Ivremen, found themselves denied admission' to the premises, for the watchmen, faithful to their trust, declined to admit any t one without the authority of their employers. A burly fireman solved the difficulty by beating in a door with his axe, and the watchman having been con vinced that the alarm of fire was genuine, raised no further objections.
