WELLINGTON; July i. Mr H. Atmore (Nelson), who has been objecting- to the law passed last year making liquors and cigars for Government House free of duty, ask ed a question on the subject in Par liament, and Hon. F. M. B. Fisher has replied a§ follows : — "There is no need again to submit this proposal to hon. members. Those members who attended to their duties last session, had their opportunity of deal ing- with this matter, and it does not appear necessary to ask the. House to reconsider the section referred to which was inserted in this Act \» bring New Zealand into line in this respect with the other oversea dominions of the Empire." The amendment, it will, be remem bered, was made at the instance of the Home authorities. WORKERS DWELLINGS. It was stated by the Prime Minister to-day in reply, to Mr G Hunter (Wai pawa) that steps have been taken by the Government for the erection of workers dwellings in. all towns where six or more applications, have been made, and arrangements are under way for the erection of about one hundred and eighty dwellings in dif feren't parts of New Zealand accordingly.
