Last night a number of personal friends of Mr. George Salt assembled at the Brian Boru Hotel to bid him good-bye prior, to his departure for Timaru, where he will in future 'reside. . Mr. G. E. Perkins, who presided, read about thirty apologies from Iliose who were unavoidably absent. • Continuing, Mr. Perkins said that they were all sorry that Mr. Salt who, had proved such an estimable citifcen- . was leaving the district. They regretted very much that Mr. Salt 's health compelled him to seek a more con- ' genial climate and they trusted that he would soon be restored to his usual vigorous health. His friends would not let Mr. Salt depart without giving him some little memento of the time he had spent on the Wild West Coast and he (Mr f Perkins) had been delegated to"' ask Mr. Salt's acceptance of a travelling rug and purse of sovereigns.-; Messrs E. M. Sheedy, Hyndman, Holmes, A. Larsen, J. O 'Donnell ; T. Davis, H. J. Bignell, and R. Hanrahan also spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr. Salt's many good qualities. Mr. Salt, who was cordially received, suitably- replied. ; .'"■.; In the afternoon Mr. Perkins on behalf of the Licensed Victuallers presented Mr. Salt with a purse of sovereigns. ' Mr. Salt leaves this morning for his. new home.
