NEC ZEALAND PARLIAMENT

FOURTH' SESSION OPENED. THE WEATHER PROPITIOUS. (Per United Press Association * WELLINGTON, June 25. The fourth session of the eighteenth Parliament was opened this afternoon by His Excellency Lord Liverpool,, in ideal weather. 1 His Excellency, the Governor, accompanied by the Countess of Liverpool and staff was escorted from Gov ernment House by the troops of Here taunga Mounted Rifles, C. Company, the Fifth Regiment forming the guard 1 of honor at Parliament House. On reaching- Parliament Bujldings His Excellency proceeded to the Legislative Council accompanied by the Black Rod and staff. There the mem bers of the Lower House had already assembled. All the available spaq^ on the floor was occupied by ladies, tihe bright colours of the dresses blending with the brighter military uniforms lent a touch of brilliancy to the spectacle. 'The reading of the Speech occu-' pied twenty minutes, and as their Ex ellencies left the building, they re-" celved a "salute from the body guard~ which was drawn up outside and mov ! ed - off to the -strains of the National Anthem. At the conclusion' of the ceremony the Council adjourned and resumed at 3 P.m. The reappointment of Hons. John Barr and J. T. Paul was announced, and the members were "sworn in. Hon. F. H. D. Bell in moving thp adjournment of the Council until 2.30 p.m. on Friday, offered Hon. Six Charles , Bp wen, who was made K.C. M.G., the heartiest congratulations on the honour. His*remarks were -endorsed by Hons Jenkinson and Mills . Sir Charles expressed thanks for the kind way in which they had recognised his services to the Council. ~ Leave of absence for the session was granted to Sir Henry Miller, and the Council adjourned^ at 3.15 p.mV
