6REY BATTALION BAND
The; Greymouth Battalion Band, paraded yesterday afiternobji at the Children's Park when they played to a large! .gathering. the ; following- programme :— March, "Europe United" ; selection, "Beauties of Warner" ; cornet solo; "Australia:* 'March Past-,-, "Turkish - Patrol" ; march. "Joyce's 7181""; selection, "Golconda" ; march, "Distant Greeting" ; National Anthem.
It is pleasing- to observe that vn r Her. Mr. Sullivatis able leadership ithe band: is fast approachincr that standard .of efficiency for which it was famed in past years. The, music was certainly >a 'treat, well selected, and its rendition left nothing' to, be desired. Probably the most pleasing number was the- cornet -solo "Australia" by Bandsman McKain. that. player exhibiting absolute mastery 'of the instrument. His' triple-tongueing is brilliant and -he never loses that delicacy of 'tone so seldom found in brass instrumentalists. ;
During the hiterval opportunity was taken to make a presentation to Bandsman . Compton (drummer) who has secured appointment loathe Railway Department at Westport. v ,- Conductor Sullivan briefly outlined the disttinguished services-rendered by Mr Compton and wished hiiij all success. . . ■'■ Mr. Compton suitably replied. ..
