THIS WRETCH HAS KILLED ME
I DYING PREMIER'S EXCLAMATION. THE ASSASSINATION' OF CANALE JAS. KNEW HL WAS A MARKED MAN. MADRID', Nov 13. Several persons who witnessed the shooting of. the Premier yesterday declare that the assassin, Manuel Marvin, otherwise Zarrate, had an accomplice. This man. however, . disappeared among the crowd, but the police are now endeavouiing to trace him. A police inspector w.as the first person to reach Senor.Canalejas after the latter had been shot down. / As he lay on the pavement, the Premier, in his agony, exclaimed: "This wretch has killed me-" and then expired almost immediately. Senor Canalejas was aware that he had been marked by the anarchists for assassination, and it was only last week that he told some intimates that he knew what 'two anarchists had taken an oath to kill him. The body of the Premier was dressed in the uniform that he wore as a Minister, and placed in a sumptuous coffin lined with grey silk, and with aji ivory crucifix on the lid. The interment is to take place in the Pantheon. Among the articles in the possession ,;of the murderer was a photograph of a girl, which was inscribed: "To my imforgetful Manuel." .The police sus pect that this girl was a member of the anarchist group to which Marvin belonged, and are now trying to find her. Another article among Marvin's personal effects was .1 memorandum-book containing a lot of mysterious hciroglyphics. But all attempts to decipher the strange writing have so far failed. THE POPE'S .COMMENT. ROME, Nov 13. /The Pope, referring to the assassination of the Spanish Premier; remarked that the. traigic event had come with the stamping out of religion in 1 the most Catholic country in the World.
