CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. Lowe beat Wright (6—3) (o—6), (6—4) (6—3) Beamish. beat Patterson in three straight out sets, (6—4) (6— 2) (6— 4). Marsh beat Dunlop (6— -2) (6—l) (7-5). " ' Marsh was too speedy and accurate, and Dunlop was saving himself. Oliver "beat St. John (6—4/ (6—3), (6-7) There was an absence of winning shots, and the game was won chiefly 1 on mistakes. [ St. John was tired after yesterday's j doubles. • The day's sensation was Rice who bca.tDixon (2—6) (6— 1) D^-4) (6-4)-Rice played the game of his life. Every ounce went out in drives, which were beautiful in length and kept Dix--1 on effectively away 'from the net. The Englishman Backhanded w" great case. Rice was magnificent and was cheered. Park beat A. B. Jones. The Irishman's first game impressed the spectators by the ease he treated Jones. The driving off the ground was too severe lor the Australian. His kngth was almost perfect atnd his backhand shots across the court into the co-mer or up the side lines were brilliant. He made scarcely a mistake. It was the finest exhibition o\ base-line tennis 'Seen in a championship court here. Jones never- had a chance although he effected brilliant shots, which were necessary to gain a point. Brookes easily beat Brown, the New Zcala-ndcr, (C— o) (6—0) (6—0); DOUBLES. Beamish and Park beat Barnard and Patterson (6—3) (6—3) (^2). . The Britishers were a fine pair and Bonmish's service was a great asset. They outclassed their opponents. Jones and Wright beat Lowe and Dixon (6—2) (6— 4) (6—o). The play was unattractive, and ' Dixon apparently worried by the number of false bounds, spoiling half the volleying.
