AIR WOMAN'S FATAL FALL
Miss. Harriet Quimby, the American air-woman, was^killed at Boston on Ist July. She was >the ' only woman w!ho had piloted an' aeroplane across the English Channel.. The fatality is = thus described by the Central News: — "Accompanied by her manager, Mr. \yillard 3 she had made a flight .round Boston Light on a Bleriot, > and was within low feet of the harbour on the return ju urn cy 3 when the machine overturned, apparently upset by a gust of wind. "Thousands of spectators who were watching the flight saw the bodies of Miss Q uimby . and Mr.' Willard turning over and over as they- shot down from an immense height until they struck the water and sank in the deep mud. Both bodies were recovered later." ' Miss - Quimby, it is added, is the fourth woman to g"ive her life for the new science, tihe others being: — Miss Julia Clark, during a practice flight on a Curtiss biplane at Springfield, Illinois, U.S.A., 17th June, 1912.
