The boy's name is John Harding Hansel!, • and he is three months sljurt of eigfit years old. He lives at Jus father's home at Boilington. His father is a cotton operative.Application was made that the boy shouM be ;-ont to aii industrial school. -, The father admitted that he had no control over the boy. On many occasions the boy had told him to go and get him heer and cigarettes, and wihen the iatlitr had refused the boy had struck him with a {brush, : .the tongs, and ,a "dolly peg. 3 ' The boy also .kicked him severely when in; bed, and had. caused an abscess to form. • This ■ conduct. had been going on for a year. Neighbours \ said ' .they had .often (heard the ,'boy ill-treating his father. sWhen people went 'to -.the /father's all the doors. : The'! father dare not refuse to get beer and cigarettes for tEe child. . ■ The boy was sent to an ; industrial school till the age of 16, and the father agreed to pay 2s a week towards his "maintenance.
