BOOTMAKERS' DISPUTE

AUCKLAND, May 14 The Conciliation Board had before it the dispute between the New Zealand Federated Bootmakers Association 5 of Operatives, the Boot .Manufacturers Industrial Union of Employers in regard to the demand for increased wages and. the .general improvement of the conditions of labour. It consisted of Harle Giles (Chairman), Mr Hutchison (Wellington), Mr Brown (Dunedin), Mr Barnes (Auckland) and assessors. - Mr Puior, for the- employees, stated •that they were not prepared ito go on with the .matter before she Council, the objection being that it was only a local dispute and they desJiiied a Do* minion award. If it w r ere a fact ; that] the Department had failed to have framed and printed the new regulation, that Way no reason fox the Departmertt putting any . bar to the re- 1 ferenee being filed. Lite asked the Operatives iFtederation to withdraw the present proceedings and fake steps to obtain a Dominion award. Mr Whiting, for ;the operatives, demurred. Mr Prior insiistkig, th© Court adjourned till 4, p. m with 3 view to ©liable a modified claim being- brought by the Union. -
