The Sydney Shipping; 'List, states that the Federal Cabinet arc consideoiing proposals for the establishment of. a regular subsidised s'eamship service 'between Melbourne a*id Vancouver and San Francisco, in order '-*"o provide better facilities for passenger traffic and trade between Victoria on the one siide and Canada and the United States on the other. Papers are before x the Ministers showing that certain steamship companies are prepared to institute a regular service of this ■ feluL. if the State would guarantee them against -loss up to a certain limit. It is thought that such ;to agreement woiiTd do much t 0 , jencourage immigration from the Pacific Coast; to 'Victoria. The Minister for -Agriculture is to have a report prepared for tne Cabinet, regarding the Victorian products lively to find a satisfactory market :'n fhe ; United . States and Canada, and the extent of trade which might be expected to develop from a subsidised service. '
