The Minister for Labour (.Hon J. A. Millar) has given notice that in committee he will move some important amendments to the Shops and Offices Bill- He proposes that, .hotels shall be defined tO mean premises- in respect to which- a publican's license as granted under the Bill. Hotel meant any premises, whether -licensed or not, in which mealsi are sold to the public ior consumption, ori the pTemises, and lodgings provided for hire;The definition of restaurant under the Bill was any premises in. which meals are sold to the public, but in which lodging is not provided. The new definition is any premises other than a hotel in which meals are provided and includes tea rooms and oyster rooms. 'As regards hours of employment, it Is proposed that in the case of hotels they shaE not exceed 62 (ex? eluding meal times) per week ior males over sixteen, .and more than 58 hours (excluding meal hours) . for fer males. In any other case the hours in restaurants are it© be 62 and 52 xer spectively. Neither the wife nor children of the occupiers, of t? hotels', ; and restaurants shall be. deemed to be shop assistants within the meaning of this section, and the award of the Arbitration Court in force on the.passr ing of the Act shall continue for the •period for which it was made.
