Mr Wyndham's amendment was reiected to Mr Birrell's land bill on the ground that it threw fresh abstaGles in the way of the sale of holdings to occupiers and increased, the Exchequer's responsibilities without confering a corresponding benefit to tenants and owners. It was negatived by 233 Messrs Redmond, Guinell and Cherry supported the bill, and Messrs W I'Brien 3 Cox and C. Craig opposed 1 Mr BJrjeJV replied tbat tte measure would be read a second time andvcommitted to the whole House.
