NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 28. The New Zealand Athletic Union Conference resumed this morn.in«j all the debates toeing present. A protest from the Southland centre, against the Southland Caledonian Society, which allowed a discmalified competitor to compete at their meeting- on New Year's Day resulted in the Society be\v\tr requested to make good the deficnency between the first and the second prize money and were fined onp guinea, to be paid within three months and the moneys and medals won returned. Steps were taken to form a centre in the Auckland province. The election of officers resulted as follows • —President, Mr G. W. Woods (InverCargill), reflected ; Vice^Presidcms Messrs Duncan (Wellington) and Clarke (New Plymouth) ; Auditor, J. Kennedy (Gerald'ine) ; secretary and treasurer, J. Corcoran 'Dunedin) ; committee, Messrs R. Smith (Pahiatua, Good (Christchurch) Keast (Dunedin) Perkins (West Coast). The alteration of the constitution to allow of the Union being registered under the unclassified societies act (as drawn up by Mr Duncan of Wellington) was adopted. On the motion of Mr Keast (Dunedin) th c Otago centre was allotted the next Conference, and the championships, Tecord book and standards were recommended to be drawn «p by the executive, the recorder beingMr Mussen (Southland). Handicappers must be approved by a centre, no handicapper being allowed to compete in any event. The question of holding dual positions under ! the amateur and cash bodies will be considered by the present executive. After minor matters were considered the Conference closed. Most of the delegates return home., this morning having spent a royal time, being hospitably treated by thp Band' Association, Caledonian Society and Town Council. The secretary was voted a bonus of and the President ;\yas given an illuminated address in recognition of his valuable services.
