NARROW ESCAPE OF CREW THRILLING EXPERIENCE BY A BOY. (Reed. 4th, 9.5 p.m.) SYDiNE-Y, Nov. 4The barquentine Kate Tatham, lying in Newcastle harbor empty, preparatory to loading coal for New Zealand, caught a sudden squalf which caused her to heel fight over. -One of the cables under the , port: bilge acted as a roller assisting to turn her over. The hatches became displaced and water rushed in.:. The vessel settled down on the bottom of the harbor. The captain, and crew were having morning coffee and; managed; with one exgeptoin, to climb onto the rail on the starboard side which was above water. They were rescued in a boat- "" The exception: was a youth named Reefs, who had a sensational experience^ Coming from below when the capsize occurred the suction drew him into the hold. -Stratum air existed between the. water, of the hold and the vessel's side and he managed with a piece of floatingntim-; ber to keep up. Tappmgxin the "side of the vessel attracted the attention of- his companions and caripenters-cut a hole in the barnuentine's decking and rescued Reefs after two hours imipfisonment. ~
