THE LATE MR SEDDON.
'The officer-commanding the Canterbury District received the following 'telegram from the General" Officer Commanding: — "It would seem to be a very fitting and graceful tribute from the members of ,,the Defence Forces of the Colony to the memory of the late Right Hon. R. J. Seddon, -Minister of Defence, if a memorial in the form of the endowment of a bed at the hos- - pital, to be named by Mrs Seddon, were offered by them. About would be required, and I would propose subscriptions be 2s for adults^nd is for cadets. Would— the' proposal meet with a satisfactory reception in your command?" Colonel Bauchop intends to ascertain whether the pro* < posal will meet with the approbation and support of the volunteers in tHs district. Speaking to a reporter he said that, personally, he was sure that such a* utilitarian form of memorial would be the one most desired by the Premier. HOKIT-IKA, June 26 - A public meeting was held this even -'' ing to consider the advisability of erecting a memorial to the late Premier in Westland: A resolution was car ried affirming- the desirability. Subcommittees' and canvassers were appointed, but the final decision as to what form. the memorial should take was adjourned till after the election, which is at present engaging a great deal of attention.
