Final Arrangements

A meeting of the committee of the combined .picnic was held at the Druids' Hall last evening. Mr H. Smith was voted to the chair. Apologies were received from Messrs W. Morris and J. B. Merrett. The Salvation Army wrote stating their willingness to attend y.^ith their band. l -»

The collection up to date amounted to £41 17s 6d. As £60 is required it was resolved that an advertisement be- put in the local papers asking those who had not already contributed to send their dqnations to the secretary. Donations o| toys, lollies, ginger beer, fruit, medals, and tickets, were received from several business people.

A good deal of discussion took place regarding the train arrangements, and it was resolved that the chairman and secretary interview the Traffic panager on the matter. They subsequently ' did so and the following trains were arranged: Leave Greymouth 10 a.m. and 10. 20 a.m. ; leave Ahaura 6 p.m. and 6.35 p.m. .; arrive Greymouth 7.30 p.m. and 8.5 p.m. Mr Ferguson was instructed to have tea ready on the ground at twelve o'clock.

It was resolved that £4 10s be spent in purchasing lollies, and bhafc a eommitjte,e qonsisting 'of Mesdames Arnett, Sampson Russell, Parkinson and Russell attend to the matter. „,. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.

It was reported in town yesterday that Mr Thomas Kieley, bricklayer, of this town, died in Wellington after a very short illness. Mr Kieley onHiy Jeft last' week on a isit to the; ; Empire City.
