MR GRAHAM SPEAKS.

[per press association.]

Nelson, April 17. Mr Graham M. H. R., addressed a crowded meeting of electorate to-night. Replying to Mr Duthie he wished that gentleman a speedy recovery and said he only opposed his politics. He went very fully into financial questions and quoted figures to prove. Mr Duthie was wrong and also pointed out the errors of the Evening Post relative to the interest payable by the colony, which he showed to be lower by nearly a quarter of a million a year than when the Government; came into -office. He quoted to prove the revision the tariff had benefitted local industries and that the cheap money scheme had largely benefitted artisans aud the colony generally. He quoted the Hon Blake's finding of the Midland Railway arbitration to show the Company was not wronged and complained bitterly of over five million acres of land being locked up through its default in completing the contract. On the motion of Col. Pitt he received a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence.
