Wellington, October 28. It is very probable that another circular will soon be issued from the Colonial Secretary's Department on use of the totalißator. It will follow the line that no permits shall be issued to any clab which has no&complled with the regulations of the racing code recently drawn up by the combined clubs. ' On October 22nd last year there were 805 unemployed on Government works. At the same date this year thete are only 225. General Edwards will take a few daya' rnst, and being an enthusiastic angler he has decided to try the trout streams at Waipahi. Hokitika, October 28. As a party of two miners were prospecting a gully for quartz reef* on the lefthand branch at Donnelly's Creek, rear Robs, they came acmpg a human skull at the bottom of the gully. The skull was intact, but partly covered with moss. There was no trace of a skeleton. Th 9 police are investigating the matter. His Excellency the Governor and Mr Walrond visited L*ke Brnnner to-day, and proceed to Christchurch via Bealey to-morrow.
