BRUNNER BOROUGH COUNCIL
[feomoub correspondent.] Bkunnerton, May 2. The usual meeting of the Brunner Borough Coancil was held last night. His Worship the Mayor in the chair. Presenters Parkinson, Seaton, Lange, Andrew, Newton, Denhard, and Dunn. The minutes of the last meeting were read, and the resolution proposed by Or Petrie and carried at the last meeting with regard to the finance committee was struck oat, it being illegal. The outward correspondence wag read and approved of. Inward. — Frera J. P. Maxwell, re council chambers, regretting that they cannot deal wl'h the land at Walkendin-any_w;ay,.:: "as ft belongs to the Wallaend Colliery Company.—Read and received. . - .From Gerhard -Mueller, -Hokitikar forwarding maps and prices. — Read, and re* ferred to works committee. From James Gotfried, Chrlstohurch, I requesting the council, in case of the district being lighted by electricity, to consider his application for the office o? eleotrlcian. — Read and received. From H. Wheatley, Dobson, complaining of the state of the road and bridge at his residence ; also, asking the council to supply him with a boat in case of floods.— Read and referred to the works commit* cc. From A. H. Kiag, Hokitika, informing the council that they were entitled to eeareh the maps in his possession, and recommending that some agent should be appointed to. make copies.— Read and received. From F. W. Parsons, agent for J. Taylor, Informing the council that ho had forwarded their request to Mr Taylor.— Read and received, From 0. Caven acknowledging reoeipt of balance-sheet, and notifying the council
that the auditor will inspect the booka at an early date.— Read and received.- 1 Inspector of Nuisances report waa read. The only place in the borough he had cause to complain of was a cottage owned by Cr Parkinson.— Read and Received. Or Parkinson explained that the place did not belong to him when it waa movedbyCr Andrew, seconded by Cr ' Langd, that the inspector be requested to furnish the council with a list of householders _w_ho Jiad not provided water, closets.— Carried. The Road Overseer's report was read and received. It recommended that immediate steps be taken to make the Stillwater bridge safe.— Moved by Cr Dunn, seconded by Cr Parkinson, that a notice be poßted upon Stillwater bridge informing the public that the bridge is not safe for vehicles of 7 tons or over. — Carried. The finance committee's report recommended that the account before the council be paid, amount L3O 0a 9d. — Moved by Cr Parkinson, seconded by the Mayor, that a committee be appointed to Belect a site suitable for slaughtering purposes and report at next meeting, the committee to oonsist of Crs Seaton and Lange. Cr Dunn gave notice of motion that at the next usual meeting I will move that the motion passed by this council asking for an independent survey of the Wallsend and Taylor ville bridge be rescinded, and that the finance committee be instructed to take over the management of the bridge, with or without the engineer's report; also, I will move that the motion appointing the finance committee to deal with the printing, &c, be rescinded ; also, that the supply committee be appointed to deal with printing. The clerk was instructed to write to the Chairman of the Grey County Council requesting him to dispense with the services of Mr White, until the construction of Wallsend bridge is again started. The council adjourned shortly after 11 p m.
